Archive

We have created and maintain The Wembury Archive, a substantial collection of documents, photographs and artefacts donated by local residents and organisations.

An online catalogue for this archive lists individual documents, grouped under numerous headings. This catalogue is searchable using key words and can be downloaded using this link:    Archives

If you would like to consult any of the documents in our care, please contact us via this website’s contact form.

Most of our census material is held on spreadsheets which may be downloaded for analysis. [Click here.]

Following the death of a prolific collector of local history material, we are now also the custodians of the Peter Lugar Archive. This comprises numerous documents, plus a very extensive local photographic collection, much of the latter being accompanied by Peter’s written memories. We aim to develop a second online catalogue for this material; in the meantime, documents currently available to download can be found here.

In addition to the above, many of Wembury’s key records – particularly those of St Werburgh’s Church and the parish council, are lodged with the Plymouth and West Devon Record Office.

We are always interested in acquiring new material, even if it is very recent. If you have additional material which you think may interest us, please contact us via our website contact form, or by approaching a member of the committee. We understand that potential donors may wish to retain their original photos and papers, but please do not let that stop you contacting us – we have scanning and photographic facilities, and it is almost always possible to make good electronic copies for the archive.
